Is That a Tube in Your Neck, Or Are You Just Happy to See Me?

There’s nothing quite like the smell of canned cat food to make you feel like you could look in the mirror and see a cigarette dangling from your mouth, rollers in your hair and legs in need of a shave. And there’s nothing like the sheepish casting about of eyes to see if there are any prospective clients around to witness you signing a payment plan at a feline speciality clinic.

But then again, there’s nothing quite like knowing a dear family pet has been saved from death to make it all worthwhile.

First, a picture of Hazel from last summer, because I long ago broke my vow to, like Mrs. G., NOT blog about my cat:

Now, a photo taken today:

She’s doing better than last week, although that’s not much of a stretch. She’s been cleaned up and her electrolytes are back to normal. She’s got a stylin’ cowl neck on to cover her feeding tube, so overall, she’s okay to look at.

That feeding tube, though. Ai-yi-yi….it’s stomach-tightening to look at. I am posting a photo, but warning: while not gory, it’s a bit unsettling. So in case you’re not going to look, I’ll close right here and say thank you to everyone for all the kind words and reassurance about old Hazel. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one goofy about family pets.

Now for the feeding tube photo:
