The office project. It is, with the exception of the quest for a rug and reading chair, complete.
Here is a reminder of the before:

And here is the office after.

Gone are the behemoth metal office desks from the 1960′s, replaced by a sleek glass-topped computer desk with a monitor stand, keyboard drawer, and absolutely nowhere to stash envelopes, pens, and junk.
That lack of storage (which was NEVER organized) was made up for with my investment in eight “itso” brand organizational storage cubes, which I had been looking at in Target for about a month. They stack, and snap together with little anchors at different points, and you can customize them with shelves, drawers, bins, trays, file folder boxes, magazine boxes and totes.

To revamp the entire office, I spent a total of $278 for storage (the itso cubes and accessories); $60 total for the two lamps (a steal); and $25 for the desk, purchased used from an ad on Craigslist. I also spent $15 on ten file boxes to stack in the closet with all the accumulated stuff that had been stacked on the desk surfaces, around the office, on the floor and in the bookcases.
That’s a grand total of $378 to completely redo the room.
I decided that I didn’t need to paint the room right away, as I would rather spend the money on the extra storage cubes, and I’m glad I did. The color is much less objectionable now that the room is clean, and is much more suitable to the more modern look of the room.
And the mental and emotional benefit of walking in here to see a zen calm, lit by the warm glow of my new lamps?
Priceless.
WOW. That’s all I have to say about THAT!
That is delightful, warm and inviting. Looks like some real work can get done in there!
Personally, I love that ceiling color now!
WAY to go on getting that re-do completed, and so economically too!
Beautiful. I’m looking around my desk, with piles of junk, and wishing I had your organized office.
ok, you know where I live, my office space looks worse that yours did, want to start your own HGTV show? Call it Sanity Savers or something?
That is beautiful.
Although, since you have inspired me to start cooking better meals….maybe this might inspire me to get off my tail and dig through my piles.
Your new office looks great and functional! I LOVE the storage. My office lacks drawer space, when I say lacks, I mean there is none! I will be checking out the “itso” organizers. I really like the different drawer sizes and how compact it looks.
Maybe you’ve inspired me to work on my junk room?!
Stacie, you slept in that office with your kids when you visited last summer. I bet you didn’t even know there was a floor in there!
Cindy, don’t be too impressed; I’ll have to take a picture in two weeks to see if it stays organized.
Rabbit wants to move her bed into the office. I suggested she just clean up her room and she started crying.
Maybe you can design my new office in the new house? I have never had an office before! I do love those lamps!
Oh my gosh, it looks amazing! Now you can see your gorgeous floors!
Hey, cousin! Now that you’re done with your office, when can I expect you to start on mine???? ;-)
Mary, I hope you are patting yourself on the back. I am certainly applauding you here. Love it and it really does look calm and like a place anyone would love to sit in and work or simply cruise the internet…. Love doing things on a dime when it comes to decorating.

What a fantastic makeover. It looks so much larger now that it’s organized. I actually like the paint color.
This is beautiful. Maybe you should not only sell houses but offer to decorate. Congratulations!! =)
Looks fabulous!!!
I love that green drawer.
And the Obama poster :)
wow, those people at HGTV got nuthin’ on you.
It looks great. If you’re ever feeling nostalgic, I’ll send you a picture of my office, or my dining room table.
Fabulous!
