My father in law has been visiting and is leaving tomorrow on his grand tour through Nebraska to see PC’s brother and his family, followed by a visit to PC’s sister and her family. Then he’s driving west to spend a few days with old friends, and will have some time with PC’s mom. They’ve been divorced for nearly 20 years, but they have their kids and grandkids in common, so they will get together and talk about them (us).
PC’s dad (let’s call him BC) has been washing dishes, helping out, and today, went out and bought us a new dehumidifier for the basement. I checked our old one yesterday and it was horrifying: the filter was dusty and the condenser coils were slimy with pink mold. I almost passed out. PC dragged it out of the house, and BC brought home a new one that looks like a Cadillac, and it is whisper quiet.
Tonight, he and PC grilled steaks and we had a wonderful dinner. Even though the temperature outside was 104 degrees! The dishes are done and they are waiting for me to finish here so we can watch “Gran Torino.”
Rabbit has been enjoying having Grandpa here, as he takes her seriously and talks to her and doesn’t nag at her about her table manners. He calls her “doll” or “pumpkin” and lets her have popsicles even if she hasn’t finished her dinner. Rabbit wants him to move in with us.
BC is the kind of Grandpa we ALL want to move in with us. Give him our love!
Let us know what you think of Gran Torino… Hubby and I watched it this past week-end and for the most part we enjoyed it. Some of the acting seemed second-rate, but Eastwood was great and I loved all the little grunts he would make.

he sounds like fun :)
At this point, I can’t even imagine 104 degrees. Everything here is covered with some color of slimy mold (the orange stuff growing out of the timber on my patio is especially colorful!) because it has rained all month.
I liked Gran Torino, but thought it wasn’t that well written.
Popsicles are fat free. I never say no to them, except in the car.
i want him to move in with us! mmmm, Popsicles. and someone who takes me seriously and listens to my conversation. Unknown bliss.
Please tell grandpa hello for me. I haven’t seen him in forever and I can’t believe I met him for the first time when I was about 16.
