Chippity Chip

July 7, 2009 by Mary

Instead of overanalyzing today’s encounter, I will simply say these things:

1.  If I ask you if you are Chip, and you say yes, then you had dang well better be Chip.  If your name is actually Jim, please disclose that to me before I’ve gone on and on with my conversation meant for Chip.  If you have trouble distinguishing the phrase “Are you Chip?” from “Are you Jim?” well, I don’t know what to say.

2.  If my friend Linda pulls up in her car and sees us talking and comes over and says “Hi! Are you Chip?” then buddy, you really shouldn’t say yes to a second person and not be Chip.  Maybe, Jim, you have a twin named Chip.  And Chip/Jim….clean out your ears.

3.  I still am not sure what happened today or who that guy was that Linda and I talked to outside the church, but upon visiting later with staff, we learned that he was not, in fact, their youth director we’ve been looking forward to meeting (whose name is Chip).  They don’t even have a guy named Jim on staff.  He was probably there to sell them pencils or office supplies.

4.  How confused do you think Jim is this evening?

5.  Truly, despite all evidence to the contrary, this is an example of me NOT over-analyzing a situation.

I found some great used children’s bedroom furniture on Craigslist last night.  No, it’s not a loft bed.  We learned our lesson last year.  It’s a dresser with hutch, a desk with hutch/bookcase, and a twin headboard.  The furniture is white, with lavendar and pink flower detail on the trim and drawer fronts.

I got in touch with the seller and went to look at it today.  It’s perfect for Rabbit’s bedroom.  I didn’t tell Rabbit I was getting it.  PC and I will pick it up on Friday and set everything up while Rabbit is at daycamp.  Friday is her Adoption Day anniversary (three years!) and we wanted to do something nice for her.  I may stop at TJ Maxx and look for a girly bedspread and dust ruffle to go with it.

PC is scraping the house trim around the windows, the porch posts, the garage door and the storm doors.  We’ll pick out trim color (or die trying) this week.  There are at least six layers of paint on the windows, likely more.  The original color is sort of a 1950’s light green, and is crackled in a way that indicates a good likelihood that it’s lead-based paint.  PC has a face mask on, just to be safe.

He’s horrified by the way someone prior to us painted the storm windows and put them on the house before the paint dried, or just painted them while they were on the house.  He’s horrified by the layers of paint that were put on top of other layers without scraping.  He’s a perfectionist when it comes to house painting (he used to paint houses for a living) and this is not a fun job for him.

What color trim should we get??

First of all, let me say Happy Adoption Day!!! I’d wait till Friday, but I’ll probably forget.

What color is your house? I am currently painting our trim a color called Midnight Sky. The color of our house is tan, and my door and bench out front are a barn red color. I love the way it looks together! I’m one of those people who scrapes off as much as I can, then just paints over what’s left. I figure I’ll be redoing when/if we ever get new siding, so it doesn’t have to be perfect. I’m just happy that it’s not peeling!

I think you should’ve asked “Chip” what color HE would choose …

(Happy happy decision on the bed for Rabbit’s 3 yr anniversary!)

No gun metal gray. Candied Apple Red with Sprinkles.

I’m still back there with the guy named Jim who did an impression of Chip. How bizarre!

I’ll be right here over-analyzing that one with you.

That whole Chip/Jim thing was just strange! Did you ever meet Chip?!

Love Craig’s list! Definitely some treasures there.

I’m partial to green as a house trim, but I guess it depends on the color of the rest of the house! We have issues with painted shut windows and paint done over chipping paint without scrapping, very frustrating for my husband too!

    Happy Adoption Day on Friday!
