A Shrine to Irony

A couple of years ago, I posted a picture on my blog of a framed portrait I saw in a house I was showing.  It was a portrait of Colonel Sanders.  It was such a great and hilarious surprise to see that picture in this anonymous family’s basement, on top of their tote boxes of stored clothing and household items.

Every time I think of that picture, I just laugh.  I even put the picture I took of it on my facebook photo album.  I’m not this huge fan of KFC, but I am a huge fan of irony (why else would I be so obsessed with Tupperware??).

Well Di over at The Blue Ridge Gal did some searching and found something for me, which arrived today via UPS.  When I got home, I saw the big box and despite every possible guess as to what it might be, I was completely unprepared for when I pulled away the packing peanuts and found this:

Our little camera has a depleted battery and my new camera isn’t here yet, so PC snapped this picture with my phone when I paused long enough between jumping up and down and squealing.  It was a perfectly delightful and thoughtful and funny gift, on a rainy day after being stressed out and worried over things I have no control over.

Di, you are an absolute angel–and the Colonel?  He’s in my office, smiling benignly at my desk.  My shrine to irony is just about complete!

  1. I hope you and Mr. Sanders have many happy years together trading secret chicken recipes! I couldn’t resist sending it to you. Enjoy it as much as I enjoy reading your blog.

P.S. I don’t eat his greasy chicken either!

  2. That is so funny and so thoughtful. Isn’t the internet wonderful it let’s you connect to so many great folks. Enjoy the Colonel, no one can resist that smile.

  3. You do look awfully happy in that picture, Mary. Who knew the Colonel, that white haired lothario, had so much power.
