Sunday Shallows, March 2010 Edition

I forgot what I was going to write about.  I had a whole post outlined in my mind before I got up this morning, and it’s gone.

Meanwhile, I’m getting out snacks and preparing to sit down and watch the Oscars this evening.  My friend Lydia is coming over to watch with me, even though I don’t think I’ve seen even one of the best picture nominees.

PC is sacked out on the sofa with a raging cold and/or sinus infection. Rabbit is getting into her pajamas, which has taken her almost 20 minutes so far because she’s spaced out standing in front of the dresser wrapping and re-wrapping her towel into a perfect sarong and humming to herself.

Hazel is asleep in the recliner here in my office.  Flower is cowering in the basement after he almost tripped me on the stairs as I was carrying a load of laundry down–he stood there, frozen, and then darted up the stairs toward me, slithering between me and the bannister.  I could have fallen and broken my neck, and I shouted at him so sharply that he stopped right in his tracks, his nails digging into the rug at the top of the steps.  Then he took off running and then sped past me down the steps on my way back up, and he hasn’t resurfaced in a while.

Almost all of our snow is melted off and the back yard is in quite a state, with slimy thawed leaves strewn across the grass and Rabbit’s playthings finally exposed, her hula hoops, shovels, wading pool, sled and various other toys.  It was almost sixty degrees yesterday.

And now, I’m going downstairs to take our coats out of the washer and hang them to dry, and then settle down in front of the TV for an evening of escape.

  1. That’s the one thing I hate about cats. They just don’t get the fact that you will TRIP if they get out of your way. And when your visibility is blocked, disaster!
