What a beautiful post. I am so sorry that you and your family are having such a difficult time. I admire you, your spirit, and the way you take steps to make things right without dwelling or wallowing. You are strong and again, admirable.

I pray for you and your family!

Really good advice and I really hope things get better for you soon. If you need some extra help, don't hesitate to also look to your local food banks. Sometimes being able to save $100 on groceries can make a big difference for a family and that's really what they're there for - people who just need a little bit of extra help to make it through the month.

I've had a lot of ups and downs in my life, but I always think back to one particular bad time when I was about 11. My parents just had a really bad divorce, my dad refused to pay child support, and my mom, my brother, and me were living on practically nothing. I remember I only had one dress and one pair of pants to go to school in and I felt humiliated everyday (the pants were green, no less), not to mention we barely had any food to go around and the hunger was constant. Then my little brother needed a round of open heart surgeries due to a congenital heart defect that worsened. Several times the doctors told us to prepare ourselves for his death, but he pulled through. We spent weeks in and out of the hospital for a year. During his recovery, my mom found out she had cancer, and we started the battle over again. For awhile, it seemed like things were never going to get better. We went from one trial to another. But eventually, little by little, things did get better and we all were able to move on to a happier place in life. No, nothing will ever be perfect, but when I go through something difficult now, it helps to remember how much we can overcome and get through. And yes, it will all be okay.

So many good points here, Mary. In the past several months we have experienced a rough time with health issues with my husband. I can't stress enough the power of God that is helping us through. I cannot imagine trying to deal with these struggles alone, like you said it always turns out badly. So yes, turn to friends and family, and before you even try it on your own, turn to God.

Did you know our own Mom didn't learn to tell time until she was in 8th grade? She said she just couldn't grasp the concept of how a clock worked. She tried to keep it a secret until one day at school, during recess, one of the nuns asked her to run in and check the time. She went in the building, came out, and said "It's Four O'Clock.", which, of course, it wasn't. After being punished for lying (and in a Catholic School, that could be anything from sitting in a corner to being beaten with a ruler), she made her goal in life to learn how to tell time. She learned to tell time and never let us forget to do the same. "Hurry up you kids! Can't you see what time it is? You're going to be late for Mass!"
Yes, our mother, who is one of the most intelligent people I know, had her own educational achille's heel.
